Pre-departure COVID Tests for trans-Tasman arrivals

With the partial reopening of the trans-Tasman bubble earlier this month, all arrivals in New Zealand will be required to take a PCR or RT-PCR test within 72 hours of their departure and return a negative result before they’ll be allowed to board their flight. Click here for more information. 

 

Virgin Australia MEL Lounge to re-open

After closing its doors in late 2020, the Virgin Australia Melbourne T3 Lounge will reopen in the coming few weeks. The Lounge has undergone extensive maintenance during its closure, with the brand-new design soon to be revealed.

 

Air New Zealand updates domestic booking policy

Customers who book or currently hold tickets for Domestic flights scheduled to depart up until 11:59 pm on 30 September 2021 will now be able to: Hold the value of their fare in credit for rebooking until 30 June 2022, for travel to be completed by 30 June 2023, or amend the date of their flight with change fees waived (any additional fare or tax difference will apply).

 

Virgin Australia VA-X and win

Virgin Australia is planning to give Velocity members the chance to win hundreds of prizes including one million Velocity Frequent Flyer Points when they get their COVID-19 vaccination! The competition is expected to launch before the end of the year, pending the timeline for the National COVID-19 Vaccine Program.

  

7-day quarantine trial for South Australia

As part of the four-phase vaccine target plan announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison earlier this month, South Australia has expressed willingness to participate in a trial of a shorter seven-day quarantine period with a small number of vaccinated travellers. If successful, vaccinated travellers may be granted the freedom to quarantine at home instead of hotel quarantine when arriving in Australia.

 

Air New Zealand reaches 90% domestic capacity

Air New Zealand has shed some positive light on the airline’s recovery position for FY21, announcing domestic capacity has reached 90% of pre-COVID levels. Corporate demand remains a strong contributor to its success, averaging 80% of pre-COVID levels for the past three months. Additionally, since the opening of the trans-Tasman bubble in April, the route is now operating at 70% of pre-COVID levels despite the recent pause with Victoria.

Air NZ boosts QLD

Under a newly formed agreement with the Queensland Government, Air New Zealand will fly year-round to the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Cairns. Endorsed through to at least May 2022, the direct flights will fly from Auckland and Christchurch, adding 26,000 seats across the three destinations. It’s the first time New Zealanders will be able to travel with the airline to the Sunshine Coast year-round.

 

Qantas launches Perth-Gold Coast

From 18 September, Qantas will fly direct between Perth and the Gold Coast. The new route will be operated by a Boeing 737 three times a week, providing direct connections and reducing travel time for customers.

 

Canada to open for fully vaccinated travellers

From 5 July 2021, Canadian citizens and residents who have received their full COVID-19 vaccination shots will be allowed to cross the county’s borders without the requirement to quarantine for 14 days. Travellers will also need to show a negative COVID-19 test result before they cross the border, and again following arrival. The Canadian Government doesn’t expect full border openings until 75% of the population is vaccinated.

 

MEL to eliminate single-use plastics

Melbourne Airport has announced its plans to eliminate single-use plastics by the end of 2021. All front-of-house hospitality venues and airport lounges will be required to exchange single-use plastics for recyclable materials for items such as plates and cutlery.

 

Hotels.

Sofitel Adelaide set to open this September

Located on Currie Street in Adelaide’s CBD, the 5-star Sofitel Adelaide hotel will open its doors this September. The 250-room property will feature two bars, a French restaurant, swimming pool and fitness centre. Along with a ballroom and multiple meeting rooms, the hotel also offers guests access to a signature Sofitel Club Lounge.

 

Holiday Inn Express Little Collins Street

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) are expanding their portfolio with the opening of Holiday Inn Express Little Collins Street on 1 November 2021. The Melbourne property will have four meeting rooms available and a business centre on-site.
