Australia set to join US Global Entry and TSA PreCheck programs

Beginning in 2025, Australian travellers will gain access to the US Global Entry and TSA PreCheck programs. These programs are designed for pre-approved or vetted flyers, allowing them to expedite the customs and security clearance procedures at domestic and international American airports. This system will be trialled early next year before being rolled out for broader enrolment by the end of the year.

An update regarding the Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand partnership

After receiving the green light from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the proposed Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand partnership is awaiting approval from New Zealand’s Ministry of Transport. If this partnership is to commence, passengers will earn Velocity points and status credits aboard Air NZ flights that use a VA flight number. They will also be able to book Air NZ flights using Velocity points.

Qantas completes inaugural Perth to Paris flight

Qantas has landed in Paris after completing its inaugural Perth to Paris flight, marking the first time in 20 years that Qantas has returned to the City of Light. This service will operate four times weekly during the European summer before dropping to three services in mid-August. This route is now the longest non-stop flight to France from anywhere in the world.

Singapore Airlines boosts Auckland service

Starting on 28 October, Singapore Airlines will commence a thrice-daily service between Auckland and Singapore. The additional third flight will operate using an A350 aircraft, providing 1700 more seats on this route each week. It is important to note, that there are several days during this period that the third flight will not operate.

New Qantas app functionality

Qantas has added new functionality to its app, allowing travellers to track the status of their inbound aircraft. Using the app, travellers can see a scheduled and estimated arrival time along with a line depicting how far the aircraft is into its journey. This means you can also now track the arrival of a friend or family member using their flight number or route. Additionally, you can now view estimated wait times when calling the Qantas Contact Centre.

Qatar Airways showcases the new Qsuite

Qatar Airways has revealed its long-awaited Qsuite Next Gen, flying under the banner of “luxury redefined.” This improved business class suite retains the premium finishes from the previous model with new and improved features such as larger lie-flat beds, ambient suite lighting, and upgraded video screens. The new model also introduces a “double bed” mode and the ability to join four suites together. However, it appears there are no short-term plans to upgrade the airline’s current Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 jets.

British Airways brings flagship first and business class to Sydney

From 27 October this year, British Airways will switch from a Boeing 787 to a Boeing 777 on its BA15 and 16 flights between Sydney and London. This will see a 38% increase in seats and the introduction of the airline’s latest first, business and premium economy offering. Singapore Airlines add more Brisbane flights

From 4 August, Singapore Airlines increased its Brisbane service to four flights per day on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. These flights will operate on the airline’s Airbus A350, fitted with 40 business class seats that can lie flat for maximum comfort. To see the flight schedule, please click here.

Emirates introduces its new Boeing 777 business class

Earlier this month, Emirates debuted its new Boeing 777 business, offering passengers a range of exciting new features. These include a “staggered seating arrangement”, a 23″ HD screen, a large table for dining/working, and ample stowage for personal devices. Click here to learn more.

Qatar Airways to make A380 upgrades

Due to delays in the production of new Airbus and Boeing jets, Qatar Airways has announced that it will continue to use its A380s until at least 2028. As such, the airline will look to make various upgrades such as the addition of free WiFi powered by Starlink, larger video screens and wireless charging. Changes coming to United Airlines Australian services

Based on demand and the wider needs of its network. United Airlines has announced a reduction in its Australian services. Although none of its six routes are being dropped, the number of flights for services such as Sydney-San Francisco and Melbourne-Los Angeles are decreasing from daily. Changes to EU regulations restrict the use of new generation baggage scanners

Recently, there were changes made to the EU Aviation Security Regulation resulting in restrictions on the use of next generation cabin baggage scanners at airports across the AU. These changes specifically target the use of C3 scanners which previously allowed passengers to carry liquids without restriction and to keep large electronic devices inside cabin baggage at security checkpoints. Resultingly, as of 1 September 2024, there will be a 100ml limitation for individual containers of liquids. Additionally, the removal of C3 scanners is anticipated to cause operational delays.

Qantas eyes new international destinations

As more Boeing 787 jets become available, Qantas has revealed its next “short-listed” international destinations. These options include Seattle, Chicago, Las Vegas and Athens. The Star Grand Brisbane begins welcoming bookings

The five-star hotel, The Star Grand Brisbane, at Queen’s Wharf, has officially opened for bookings for stays from 29 August this year. This 340-room hotel will offer guests a luxury experience with opulent rooms and suites boasting spectacular views of Brisbane. This marks a significant milestone in the resort’s multi-stage opening.

Hamilton to welcome a new premium Pullman hotel

It has been announced that Hamilton will welcome a premium Pullman hotel as part of a new $100m project. Set for a grand opening in 2026, this 191-room hotel will arise from a transformation of the existing Mistry Centre and offer guests a sophisticated accommodation experience. This hotel will include a range of amenities such as underground parking, restaurants and day spa facilities.

Minor Hotels acquires Melbourne’s Jazz Corner Hotel

Minor Hotels has announced the acquisition of the Jazz Corner Hotel in Melbourne. Located in the city’s historical legal district, the hotel is within walking distance of some of Melbourne’s best shopping and a range of renowned restaurants and bars. The hotel’s amenities include a cafe, mezzanine restaurant and bar, and a gym.

Rydges reopens in North Sydney

After undergoing a complete renovation, Rydges North Sydney has reopened its doors, showcasing a new elevated guest experience. The renovated hotel is situated proximally to the Sydney Harbour and offers a range of thoughtfully designed spaces. These include quality rooms and suites, modern event facilities and easy on-site parking.
