Virgin Lounges vaccination requirement
With the opening of the Virgin Australia Melbourne and Sydney Lounges, the airline is reminding guests that in line with State government requirements, all guests over the age of 16 are required to provide evidence that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or provide certification from a medical practitioner that they are unable to receive a dose.
Western Australia announces border opening date
Western Australia will ease its border restrictions from 12:01 am Saturday 5th February, meaning interstate and international travellers will not be required to quarantine on arrival, provided they are fully vaccinated. A negative PCR test will be required 72 hours prior to travel and a second will be required on arrival.
Qantas to restart Sydney-London A380 flights in July
From July 2022, Qantas will restart its A380 flights between Sydney and London offering newly upgraded business class and premium economy seating. The A380 will also launch on the Sydney-Los Angeles route from March after nearly two of hibernating in Mojave Desert, California.
Virgin to restart Sydney-Canberra
Virgin Australia has announced the re-start of Sydney-Canberra flights from 30 January 2022. Up to 9 flights per weekday will be flown by VA’s regional partner, ACT-based Link Airways, on its fleet of Saab 340 B Plus aircraft. While the flights will offer economy-only seating, eligible Velocity members will still gain access to VA’s Sydney and Canberra airport lounges.
New partnership between Virgin Australia & United Airlines
The new partnership between Virgin Australia & United Airlines will give guests access to the 130 US airports that United operates to, as well as numerous global gateways, offering seamless travel through direct services on United between Australia, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston. Both eligible Velocity Frequent Flyer and MileagePlus members can enjoy reciprocal benefits when flying, including priority check-in, priority boarding, priority security clearance, additional baggage allowances and Lounge access.
Qantas and Accor loyalty offering
A new joint loyalty offer from Qantas and Accor will see members of both Qantas Frequent Flyer and Accor ALL rewards schemes earn points towards both memberships for flights and hotel stays. Accor ALL Gold, Platinum and Diamond status members, or QF Platinum and Platinum One members will earn two Accor points per $10 spent on Qantas flights while Qantas Frequent Flyer members receive three QF points per dollar spent on Accor property bookings in the Asia Pacific.
Emirates to revamp aircraft with Premium Economy
Emirates will be refitting 105 aircraft with its new Premium Economy product, with the rollout expected to begin from the end of 2022. The 52 A380s and 52 Boeing 777s fitted will offer passengers a more comfortable flying experience with six-way adjustable headrests, calf rests and footrests.
Air New Zealand Sustainability Report
Air New Zealand has just released its latest Sustainability Report, taking aim at climate change and outlining the actions it will take over the next decades to improve its sustainability. The report lays out the airline’s path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with four main levers to reduce gross emissions as much as technology will allow before utilising offsetting. SQ opens SilverKris at Changi
On Tuesday 23 November, Singapore Airlines unveiled its new SilverKris business class lounge at Changi Terminal 3. The lounge will open to Gold-grade frequent flyers in economy and premium economy, business class and first-class passengers.

Movenpick arrives in Melbourne
The 172-room Movenpick Hotel Melbourne has opened its doors on Spencer Street, becoming the second of its kind in Australia after Hobart. In addition to its iconic chocolate hour between 3:30 and 4:30pm every day, the property also offers a 25-metre swimming pool, hot tubs, a sauna and a gymnasium.
Hyatt to offer digital hotel keys in Apple Wallet
In an industry first, Hyatt is offering guests the ability to unlock their hotel room with a digital hotel key that can be stored in their Apple Wallet. The technology, available at select properties in the US, provides a contactless experience from check-in to check-out with guests able to add their room key to their Apple Wallet via the World of Hyatt app.
