Airlines/Airports.

 

Virgin Australia announces five new routes

From July, Virgin Australia will commence five new routes to Cairns, Darwin and Townsville, starting with Sydney-Darwin from 14 July 2021. Also on the list is Perth-Cairns, Sydney-Townsville, Adelaide-Cairns and Melbourne-Townsville. The airline will also increase flights on the ‘Golden Triangle’ (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) from October. 

 

Changes to Air New Zealand’s Covid Flexibility policy

Air New Zealand’s current domestic Covid Flexibility Policy will cease on 30th June 2021 and the airline will revert to normal fare conditions. This means that for any domestic travel after 30th June 2021, cancelled bookings can no longer be held as a credit and the airline change fee will once again be applied. Should you have any questions on changes related to your booking, please check with your travel consulting team.

 

Skybus Airport Service launches in Brisbane

A new Skybus service has launched at Brisbane Airport, transporting passengers from both Domestic and International terminals to Fortitude Valley, Newstead, and the Brisbane CBD. A one-way fare costs $15, or $28 for a return trip. 

 

Qantas delays international flights

In response to the Federal Government’s revised timeline for the reopening of our international borders to mid-2022, Qantas has adjusted its planned international flights from end-October 2021 to late December 2021. If you have booked international travel (with the exception of flights between Australia and New Zealand) between 31 October 2021 and 19 December 2021, please wait for your dedicated CTM consultant to contact you about next steps.

 

Plaza Premium reopens SYD, MEL & BNE lounges

Plaza Premium has reopened three of its Australian lounges, welcoming guests on a pay as you go basis, and Priority Pass members up until 1 July. The Plaza Premium Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne lounges all reopened on 31 May, after a schedule delay that saw them originally reopening from the 17 May. 

 

American Airlines plans NZ restart by end of year

American Airlines is preparing to resume flights to New Zealand from the end of this year, starting with a daily Los Angeles-Auckland service from 16 December 2021. Next on the list is a daily Dallas/Fort Worth-Auckland from 4 January 2022 and Los Angeles-Christchurch from 5 January 2022 with three flights per week. The airline is waiting to confirm the flights assuming an easing of restrictions that may permit travel by passengers who have been fully vaccinated.

 

France green-zones vaccinated Aussies and Kiwis

The French government has revealed its own traffic light system for foreign travel for when the country opens to international tourists on 9 June. Vaccinated travellers from a list of green-zone countries, including Australia and New Zealand, will be able to arrive in France without the need to show a negative COVID test.

Quincy Hotel Melbourne debuts

TFE Hotels has expanded its Melbourne offering with the opening of Quincy Hotel Melbourne. The 241-room hotel features a rooftop pool and bar, with two eateries found on the ground floor and level one.
